Question 1

What type of fire extinguisher does my building need?

Accepted Answer

Visual checks should happen monthly; done in-house by whoever's responsible for fire safety, just checking the extinguisher is present, unobstructed, the pressure gauge is in the green, and there's no visible damage. Basic Service (annual), must be carried out by a competent, certified engineer.

Question 2

Do you supply extinguishers for events as well as permanent installations?

Accepted Answer

We offer a separate event rental service. Please see our Fire Extinguisher Event Rental page for details.

Question 3

How do I know how many extinguishers I need?

Accepted Answer

This is based on a site survey and the applicable fire risk assessment, not a fixed formula.

Question 4

Is servicing included when you supply extinguishers?

Accepted Answer

Supply and servicing are separate services. See our Fire Extinguisher Servicing page for details.

Question 5

How often does a fire extinguisher need servicing?

Accepted Answer

Extinguishers require servicing annually per BS 5306.

Question 6

Why is there no fixed price for fire extinguisher servicing?

Accepted Answer

The cost depends on how many extinguishers you have, their types, their condition and how easy they are to reach. A free site survey means the quote is based on your premises rather than an estimate.

Question 7

What happens if an extinguisher fails inspection?

Accepted Answer

We flag it for repair or replacement as part of the visit.

Question 8

Do you offer reactive call-outs, not just annual contracts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We provide supply, service and reactive call-out support.

Question 9

Will I get documentation for compliance records?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We provide certification after each visit.

Question 10

When Are Fire Extinguishers Due for a Service Exchange?

Accepted Answer

On top of the basic annual service, extinguishers need a more thorough extended service on a set cycle. Water, foam, powder, and wet chemical extinguishers: every 5 years. CO2 extinguishers: every 10 years. You don't need to track these dates yourself, we monitor when your extinguishers are due and will notify you ahead of time, quoting for the exchange separately from your annual service.

Question 11

How far in advance do I need to book extinguisher hire for an event?

Accepted Answer

As much notice as possible is always best, it gives us the best chance of matching you with exactly the right extinguisher types and quantities for your event, and guarantees availability during busy periods. That said, we know things come up last minute. If you're up against it, get in touch anyway, we'll always do what we can to get you covered.

Question 12

Do you deliver and collect, or do we need to arrange transport?

Accepted Answer

Delivery and collection are included in the service.

Question 13

Can extinguishers be hired for a single day only?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Single-day and multi-day hire are both available.

Question 14

Do hired extinguishers meet the same compliance standard as permanent ones?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All units comply with BS 5306.

Question 15

What is the difference between an FD30 and FD60 fire door?

Accepted Answer

An FD30 doorset provides 30 minutes of fire integrity. An FD60 doorset provides 60 minutes.

Question 16

Do you install fire doors in existing buildings, or only new builds?

Accepted Answer

We install in both. Our experience covers new builds and refurbishments.

Question 17

What standard do your fire door installations meet?

Accepted Answer

Our installations meet Approved Document B standards.

Question 18

Will I receive certification after installation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Certification is provided as standard practice.

Question 19

How often should fire doors be inspected?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the building type and height. Residential buildings over 11m: communal fire doors (corridors, stairwells, lobbies, plant rooms) must be inspected every 3 months; flat entrance doors at least annually. This is a statutory requirement in England. Residential buildings under 11m: no statutory quarterly requirement, but at least an annual inspection is widely recommended, with more frequent checks in busy communal areas. Commercial buildings (offices, shops, warehouses): the Fire Safety Order doesn't set a fixed interval, but a six-monthly inspection is generally treated as a sensible minimum. High-footfall settings (retail, hospitality, healthcare) should inspect every 3 months. Inspections should always be carried out by a competent, certified inspector.

Question 20

What happens if a fire door fails inspection?

Accepted Answer

We flag it for repair or replacement and provide a full schedule.

Question 21

Can you inspect fire doors that another company installed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Inspection and maintenance are independent of who supplied or installed the door.

Question 22

Do you provide a written schedule of findings?

Accepted Answer

Yes. This is provided as standard practice.
